The Art of Love by Ovid — The Roman Poet Who Got Himself Banished for Writing It | Retrosheep
Two thousand years old and still causing trouble. Publius Ovidius Naso — Ovid to his friends, which was everyone, because Ovid was enormously charming — wrote The Art of Love around 2 BC and promptly scandalised the Emperor Augustus so thoroughly that he was banished to the edge of the known world, where he died alone, never permitted to return to Rome. The poem survived. The empire didn't. We have a genuinely beautiful Folio Society edition of this wickedly funny, surprisingly modern, and thoroughly irresistible classic right here in the Retrosheep shop — cream cloth binding, gilt spine, full illustrations, burgundy slipcase, used like new. £24.99. Augustus would have hated it. That's practically a recommendation in itself.

I have been collecting manga for years, and I can tell you with complete honesty that nothing else in the world of printed art comes close to it. Japanese manga is raw, beautiful, brutal, tender, and impossibly detailed all at once. It is an art form with roots stretching back centuries, and right now — in 2025 — it is bigger than it has ever been in its history. This is my love letter to manga, to the artists who pour their souls into every page, and to the incredible Blade of the Immortal collection I have preserved for future generations to discover.

In 1573, a Flemish cartographer in Antwerp pressed copper plate to paper and produced something extraordinary — Cambriae Typus, the most celebrated ancient map of Wales ever made. Published in Abraham Ortelius's landmark atlas Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, it was built on the painstaking surveys of Humphrey Lhuyd, a Welsh physician from Denbigh who loved his country enough to measure it. Over 450 years later, every mountain, river, and coastline of that remarkable map has been faithfully laser-engraved onto premium acacia wood by Retrosheep — handmade right here in South Wales. This is the story of how Wales was first put on the map, and why that map still matters today
